This is a tough one, because my favorite fairy tale is one no one has ever heard of.

It's this one:

The Prince and His Three Fates (Ancient Egypt)

I'm not sure what other ones to pick. I'm tempted to go with a Swahili story and a Japanese story, though. Would these be okay? I know that nothing I'm picking is traditional. And I'm not certain if the Japanese story was written by Lafcadio Hearn or recorded by him.

Initial answer: Your stories are fine! They sound neat.

Specific answer: As long as it's legal and online, I'll accept that Japanese story. I'm not advertising it, but I am allowing modern fairytales (which means someone could be using an Ursula Vernon story if they wanted) so even if he's the author, it's fine.

It's legal and online. And it's apparently an "as told to" story--Hearn credits "a farmer of Chofu, Nishitamagori, in Musashi province" as the one who told him The Story of Yuki-Onna.

Great, then it has my stamp of approval.

I'm going to be linking tagging trees when it's actual nomination time, so you'll see how to format the tag for it.

Well, this is an unexpected development.

AO3 simply won't accept the story's name (either "The Story of Yuki-Onna - Lafcadio Hearn" or "The Story of Yuki-Onna (Fairy Tale)"). Every time that I try to enter, the nomination form ends prematurely.

I think I'd better pick a different story.

It went through for me! I didn't have a third fandom, so I'll keep it. What characters would you like?

Oh, thank you! Minokichi (he's the woodcutter that the Woman of the Snows takes a fancy to) and...I don't know if you want to list both Yuki-Onna (the supernatural being) and O-Yuki (the mortal woman she becomes so that she can marry Minokichi, which is very definitely her idea) or not. And for the fourth...Yuki-Onna's children, I think. The story says that she had ten, both boys and girls. I've always wondered what they were like and what adventures they had. Especially her daughters. If that's permitted, that is. I realize that I'd be veering into origfic territory.

I think a large amount of what will be produced for this exchange will be origfic, which is totally fine. I'm not gonna do the children because I'm not sure I can do a mass of characters as a tag, but I can def. do the first three. Make sure to ask about the children in your dear author!

Thanks for the Prince and His Three Fates link - the text is a lot easier to read there than in the Project Gutenberg versions of the Andrew Lang books.
