John Henry (American Tall Tale)
John Henry (Tall Tale)

This particular American tall tale has always fascinated me and I would love to see what could be done with it in the sense of either setting the story in different time periods, or a modern take on it. Even going Industrial Age Modern Age, Space Age.(say helping build space rockets?
or perhaps meeting up with Rosie the Riveter. Tell me how he got his special hammer, how he built his reputation, a day in the life, crossovers, or perhaps he leaves it all behind to go live a quiet life on a cattle ranch?
Really anything would be wonderful here.

DNW: incest, non-con, explicit sex or gore or gender bends or character bashing

Robin Hood's Death (English and Scottish Popular Ballads - Child)
Robin Hood (Robin Hood's Death)

A modern retelling, or from the point of view of those closest to the titular character, or perhaps how the events that let up to his death came about? Or perhaps it was staged to make his enemies believe that he was dead? (I'm not sure if this would work, but perhaps there's an elaborate funeral and everyone's is grieving over his dead and buried body, and Robin Hood's comes to hear his own eulogy? from a hidden and safe distance of course? Just an idea. Or perhaps someone else takes up the mantle for the sake of posterity for there must always be a Robin Hood (if this is the case, the one who takes up the mantle can be male or female?

The Second Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor
Sinbad (The Second Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor), Rocs (The Second Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor), Merchants in the Valley of Diamonds (The Second Voyage of Sinbad the Sailor)

Of all the Sinbad tales this one is one of my favorites. I would love to see how the Rocs are incorporated into the story.
Perhaps the Merchants are protective to the point of getting/refusing to help Sinbad out of the jam he's gotten himself into?
Perhaps there's more to the Roc than what's apparent. Perhaps the merchants of the diamond mines have a symbiotic relationship with the Rocs that goes back centuries? Or they believe the Rocs are guardian spirits?

Just a few ideas. I love action/adventure, day-in-the-life, crossovers, angst with a dollop of happiness, hurt/comfort
character studies

DNW: excessive gore or sex, gender bends, character bashing,

The Story of the Champions of the Round Table - Howard Pyle
Lancelot du Lac (The Story of the Champions of the Round Table), Knights of the Round Table (The Story of the Champions of the Round Table), Arthur (The Story of the Champions of the Round Table)

Here I would love a story about any of the nominated characters, from a day in the life, a quest or even a character study or action/adventure
