Beta Post 2023
Hello! We hope everyone is enjoying their ideas for their assignment and (optionally) treats.
Works are due in two months at 11:59pm CDT, Sunday May 7.
Betas
Betas are not required for this exchange, but they can be a great asset to your story. A beta can help find bits you missed, tease out the strengths of a story, or offer insights on improvement.
Even if you aren't writing in this exchange, betaing for others is a great way to participate and have fun! Your valuable service is immensely appreciated.
If you want to help out as a beta, please reply in a comment to this post. The following information may be helpful:
-a name (especially if you're signed up - give your AO3 name to ensure you aren't asked to beta your own gift)
-how to contact you (we recommend email, but other options are possible)
-what canons you know, or are willing to familiarise yourself with (see the source spreadsheet and the sign-up summary showing which stories were requested).
-if there is anything you can't beta (by length, content, timing, etc)
-what kind of beta services you offer
Bonus:
-any specific expertise you can offer advice on
-document formats you prefer
Anonymous comments are on, but please make sure to give contact details.

no subject
contact: onceuponafic beta or
canons: any canon, especially if i can find the source material easily (most familiar with greek mythology and european and east asian fairytales)
anything you can't/won't beta: no, i'll beta anything. if it would usually require a CW (e.g. potential triggers like rape/murder/animal harm/illness/etc. or hard kinks) i'd appreciate a heads up but i'll take a look at anything.
what type of beta services do you offer: that depends on the author. i tend toward brutal honesty (but like in a nice way lol) but i can modify my beta style depending on what makes the author comfortable. i also generally do one read-through and then a second critical reading, so i would probably not be a good choice if you need a quick 1-2 day turnaround. i do try to get the fic read/reread, beta'd, and sent back to the author within 5 days though.
Bonus: i can do a simple SPAG, as well as storyline/plot, characterization, continuity, and themes/motifs. i'm also available just to bounce ideas off of, or offer some guidance on a particular issue if a full beta isn't necessary.
format-wise, i prefer microsoft word docs or google docs.
