Cupid and Psyche (Metamorphoses - Apuleius)
Psyche (Metamorphoses - Apuleius), Cupid (Metamorphoses - Apuleius)
General likes:
Found families and 'us against the world' dynamics
Human/non-human pairings
Relationships with power imbalances
Hurt/comfort and trauma recovery, especially in contexts where the relationship between the characters is somewhat fraught and complicated
Dark fairytales
Metamorphoses and transformations
Stories within stories
Ordinary human beings encountering/interacting with the supernatural and otherwordly, and vice versa
Stories that hinge on bargaining, diplomacy and exchange, and characters who are clever and perceptive about these things
Stories that make heroic the ordinary activities of everyday life, especially things considered 'women's work'
DNWs:
Fusions and crossovers
Canon divergence and setting change AUs are fine, but I don't want any AU that fundamentally changes the rules of the universe in which the source material is set (so if the source material is a setting in which magic/the supernatural is real, or in which human beings interact with gods, I want this to be retained in any setting-change AU)
Incest
Omegaverse
Unrequested identity headcanons
Unrequested ships involving my requested characters (background pairings involving unrequested characters are fine though)
Death of requested characters

Prinsessen paa Ærten | The Princess and the Pea - Hans Christian Andersen
Any Character
Prompts
-This story is so silly and so short that really anything goes! Feel free to go madcap with it, a la Once Upon a Mattress, or try to find a way to take it seriously (maybe there are some spy shenanigans going on, or a weirdly specific curse).
-Backstory for how the queen (and the prince) decided he needed a True Princess and what exactly disqualified any other candidates. How did they miss the princess from the story, or did they visit her kingdom and not notice her for some reason?
-What is the princess's deal? Was she coming to their palace anyway, or did she get caught in the rain on her way elsewhere? Is she in fact a true princess, or a very dedicated con woman, and how does she feel about any of this?
-Bonus prompt, using characters or not if you want to depart the text: at the end, the story mentions that the pea was put in the museum, where it remains if no one has stolen it. I would love to hear more about literally anything about this museum. A docent several centuries later gives a tour? There's a fairy tale crossover pea heist? They also have a piece of Snow White's apple, or Cinderella's slipper? Go wild!
General Likes
Happy endings! Retellings of a whole tale, or answering the many many questions that most tales leave up to the audience to determine. Romance, and adding queerness to tales (feel free to change princes to princesses and vice versa where you're in the mood). AUs either of the canon divergence type or of the setting change type, though unless otherwise specified I prefer not to remove magic entirely (though if you want to try sci fi, fairy tales in space are always a favorite for me). Epistolary or other document-type stories (fake academic articles, collated documents, etc.). Worldbuilding.
DNWs
Overall, I am fine with including these elements up to and including the level they're at in a canon, but wouldn't like them introduced or pushed further: major character death, terminal or other major illness (particularly cancer), epidemics/pandemics (COVID or any others), abuse, incest, infidelity, rape/non-con, gore, horror elements. For this fest, I'd prefer no PWP.

Riquet à la Houppe | Ricky of the Tuft - Charles Perrault
Any Character
Prompts
-This is a wild story that begs about a thousand questions and has about three thousand things to unpack, and truly, I am happy with whatever you want to explore about this tale that made you offer it. However, some guidance follows if you're at sea.
-I rather like Perrault's implication that the fairy gifts were less magic than they were the ability to see past the surface of a person (and, in the princess's case, of oneself). Please lean into that! The beautiful princess has been told her whole life that she's stupid, and maybe it was a self-fulfilling prophecy that takes some self-belief and some study to overcome. And Riquet's appearance is whatever it is (though the ableism in this story is sure a thing), but maybe his sweetness and intelligence matter more to the princess in the end.
-What happens to the clever princess when the story is done? She's shunted to the side as soon as her sister can keep up with conversations as well as she can. I'd love to see her future adventures and a happy ending for her.

Die Gänsemagd | The Goose Girl - Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
Goose-girl (Die Gänsemagd), Servant | False Princess (Die Gänsemagd)
Prompts
-The princess is both very passive, as presented, and very powerful first in her mother's magic and then in her own. What has her life and her training been like, to make her like this? Was she biding her time in the goose pasture, or was she happier there?
-How long has the false princess been planning this? Is she a revolutionary? Out selfishly for power and wealth? Revel in her being villainous, or give her some sympathy, I am happy with either (though I do ask that if she's getting sympathy the princess/goose girl isn't villainized in her place).
-What has their relationship been like before this journey? Are they lifelong enemies, total strangers, estranged friends or lovers? Give some backstory, or let them have an honest conversation after the story's end. (I'm not wild about the brutal capital punishment here, so I'd ask that either you commute that sentence somehow or that at least you stop short of it in the timeline.)
-How does an AU work where they're working together for some reason, or this was some kind of double-bluff? At the end of it do they run off together, does the princess help the servant escape, do they find some other way to come out of this with both of them happy?

Die zertanzten Schuhe | The Twelve Dancing Princesses - Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
Any Character
Prompts
- How did the princesses find the cursed princes underground? Do they know that now even longer has been added to their curse? Are they in love with them, or trying to save them, or just trying to get away from a strict father? (Side note: I'd love an AU where they break the princes' curse before the soldier comes for them, and bring the princes back home with them. How does their father take that? How does ANYONE take that?)
-How does the oldest princess deal with killing the men who are spying on them? She seems scornful of them, and of the soldier in particular. How does that marriage go for her, with that in mind?
-An exploration of the youngest princess (or any of the other princesses) after the story is over. The youngest princess is observant, and worried that they were being followed. How do her sisters react when they find out she was right, and how does she feel about being right? And further in the future, what becomes of her? Does she try to go back to rescuing the princes, or find a more mundane life, or go out on adventures?
-How did the cursed princes underground become cursed in the first place? How did the princesses come into their orbit?
-Many princes died before the soldier solved this mystery. How does this major diplomatic problem get solved? Also with these princes: an AU where instead of killing them the princesses trap them in the underground land, and they are the cursed princes. (Overall I'm never fond of villainizing groups of women, so if there's a way the princesses come out of this sympathetic I would be happy, but go where the story takes you if you're picking this prompt up!)

-I like how much Imani and Subbar Khan genuinely seem to like each other! A peek at any of their conversations when she summons him with her fan, or at several of them, or at their happily ever after, would be a joy.

Does she decide to find Kupti a husband with her usual skill at planning, for instance?).
-I'd love to see something with some sympathy for Kupti, a story where she can rebuild a relationship with her sister, perhaps, or where her motives for the poisoned glass were purer in the first place. Or maybe she strikes out on her own for some adventures.
