Once Upon a Fic will shortly run for its eleventh year!
Here's the schedule:
Nominations: January 29th, Wednesday to February 9th, 11:59 pm Sunday
Sign-Ups: February 16th, Sunday to February 26th, 11:59pm Wednesday
Assignments out: February 28th, Friday
No-Fault Default Deadline: April 26th, 11:59pm Saturday
Deadline: May 4th, 11:59pm Sunday
Archive Goes Live: May 16th, 4:59pm Friday
Anon Period Ends: May 23rd, 4:59pm Friday
We'll be back soon with a sticky and nominations guidelines!
For now, please think about what fairy tales, tall tales, myths, urban legends, folklore, religious lore, ballads, and similar other texts you are interested in this year!
For each nominated canon, we track down a public domain source (and we don't accept nominations of stories that aren't in the public domain). So we appreciate you checking what sources this exchange has used in the past, confirming before sign-ups that the version we've selected is right, or supplying a new source to make sure that the version you remember matches the version another exchange participant will also be relying on. For Red Riding Hood, are we talking Perrault (wolf proposes a race to grandmother's house, ends in wolf eating girl) or Grimm (huntsman defeats wolf)? For Sleeping Beauty, are we talking Briar Rose (twelve fairies, the whole castle sleeps when the princess does) or The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood (eight fairies, the king and queen don't sleep, also there are ogres) Sun, Moon, and Talia (no fairies, but ogres)? Etc.
