I'd love takes on this that are any or all of the following:
- Less violent than the original, so there aren't a ton of young women brutally murdered as part of the story (Could be that he deflowers and divorces them instead? That would be a fun take. Or, Lindworm just plain doesn't want them if they're scared of him.)
- More monsterf*ckery (or monster-loving, if you're not into smutty ideas) than the original! Maybe the Shepherd's daughter volunteers after hearing about the Lindworm? Maybe she's into him!
- Exploring more about the life and situation of the Shepherd's Daughter! Who is she, what is she like? What makes her able to listen to the fairy's advice and be able to whip the Lindworm into line?
- A version in which Lindworm doesn't just slither out of the palace and then show up however many years later demanding a bride. What is it like parenting a lindworm? How is he as a child??
- Explores Lindworm's mother and her experience more! How does she experience her pregnancy with the Lindworm? What is the birth like?? If you want to write a story where Lindworm stays, what is it like for her to be his mother?

A few ideas:
- What is going on at home for the merchant and the rest of the family? How does each of them feel about and understand the merchant leaving one of his daughters with what he thinks is a monster who will be potentially physically or sexually violent with his daughter? How do his other children feel about him doing this?
- Villeneuve's original version of the story gave the Beast a whole backstory with multiple fairies involved. Then there's the Disney version, where the Beast brings his curse on himself because of how callous and selfish and superficial he is. What's your take on how a prince became a cursed beast?
- What is Beast's day to day life like? How does he live in his cursed castle? How does he fill his time?
- What is it like being the servants in the story? What are THEIR lives like? Almost all versions of the story sort of implicitly view the palace staff as not real people, just extensions of the Prince and his issues, without lives or motivations of their own (including the Disney version, where none of the servants are angry at Beast for cursing ALL of them, and there's a whole song in which they say they "live to serve")
