Beta Post 2019
Feb. 28th, 2019 10:26 amGetting a beta's opinion on your story is a great way to polish it up, look at it with fresh eyes, and post it with confidence.
Whereas beta-reading stories is an opportunity to tease out their strengths, read them early, collaborate with other fans, and contribute further to the exchange!
If you can beta read participants' stories in this exchange, please comment on this post or email the mods to add your contact details.
Useful information:
-your AO3 name if participating, or another name if not
-how to contact you
-what canons you know, or are willing to familiarise yourself with (see this year's sources spreadsheet and the sign-up summary showing which stories were requested).
-if there is anything you can't beta (by length, content, timing, etc)
-what kind of beta services you offer
Bonus:
-any specific expertise you can offer advice on
-document formats you prefer
Thanks very much for helping out!

Date: 2019-02-28 01:26 pm (UTC)-how to contact you: notsotragic at gmail or here
-what canons you know, or are willing to familiarise yourself with: All
-if there is anything you can't beta: If story contains character death, sexual assault, graphic violence, domestic violence, underage, etc. I prefer a warning as not to go in blindly but I will beta anything.
-what kind of beta services you offer: Varies; can do SPAG only or SPAG + plot/continuity/themes/etc.
I am a very thorough, deliberate beta and can be blunt (though not harsh or cruel). If you don't mind waiting a few days and/or a little honest concrit, I'm the beta for you. If you need a quicker turnaround and/or gentler criticism it might be best to pass on me! :D
Bonus:
-any specific expertise you can offer advice on: A little bit of religion (Judaism and Catholicism), SPAG, plot/continuity/theme/etc., and sports (baseball and hockey)
-document formats you prefer: Word Docs or Google Docs

Date: 2019-03-01 10:36 pm (UTC)AO3 name: roguefaerie (samidha)
How to contact you: erlewy at gmail. (I prefer working in Google Docs).
Canons I can do: I can familiarize myself with any shorter work. I can't familiarize myself in a timely manner with a long greek myth text or a long Norse text (for example although I am familiar with all of them, I just wouldn't feel comfortable saying I have expertise on a longer myth cycle including the Lokasenna etc.)
If there is anything you can't beta: Sexual assault, underage, really graphic fics. (The thing about really graphic fics is I just don't write action scenes well so I wouldn't be good at betaing really action-y fics).
Expertise: Flow, seamlessness, general English nerd stuff (former English tutor but better at flow than grammar explanations). Turn around time should be good (I'm always online) but I'm someone with fatigue so a little bit of leeway on time is appreciated (let's be honest I'd be nervous to get it to you late tho.)

I'm happy to beta any content. I am familiar with most tales nominated this year, but am patchy on Greek and Norse mythology, and have not read the Divine Comedy or Medea.
Can do Google Docs, Word, LibreOffice. Tracked changes functionality preferred. If we can't agree on a document format that uses tracked changes, then I'm willing to give overarching suggestions on plot, character, etc, but will not give spelling and grammar corrections.
Please give a few days' notice - I'm rarely able to do a single-day turnaround.
