NOMINATIONS! ARE! CLOSED! Sign ups soon!

Tagset is HERE!

Your nominations create the set of stories that can be offered and requested when signing up. The tagset is user-chosen and changes from year to year. You don't need to nominate to sign up, but you do need to nominate to ensure that what you want is in the tag set.

You can nominate up to 4 fandoms and up to 4 characters each.

Guidelines can be found here in the FAQ, resources can be found here, and of course feel free to ask the mods anything at: onceupon@fandom.exchange

Please be specific when nominating - narrow your tale down by author or origin. You can also comment on the post here to clarify which version you mean, and give us links, especially if you think we may have difficulty finding the source.

Nominate! Check back before the end of nominations (Feb 2nd) to see if we have questions for you! And then, Feb 9th, SIGN-UPS!

Important Dates, all times in CST/CDT:

Nomination Period: January 19th, Sunday to February 2nd, 11:59 PM Sunday

Hello! For nominating a mythical creature, how does the character nomination work? Like "Selkie original character"?

I wanted to nominate Jorōgumo actually.
I thought that if you nominated a species of fantastic creatures, you could maybe nominate original characters from this species? Or linked to the story, like, with you example "young girl who met the Chupacabra", but yeah, I'd like to have some guidelines.

OK, so I don't need to nominate specific characters? (sorry I want to be totally sure)

The wikipedia page is good! Most English youtube videos about jorogumos start with it, and then talk about them in popular culture. Thank you again!

Could Carmilla from Le Fanu be nominated? I think it's public domain, but I'm not 100% sure it fits the theme of the event.

No problem!

I've been looking through other favorite old fairy tales, epics, etc., and I was thinking of nominating Yde et Olive, and old french tale (circa 13th century). The translation in English is available online here. However, it doesn't have an ao3 tag.

Would I be able to nominate Swan Lake (Tschaikovsky) as a fandom? It feels a little borderline to me so I wanted to check! And you mentioned pointing at selkies, I wouldn't know how to nominate selkies! They mostly exist in my brain as foggy folklore as opposed to linked to a specific story.

For a selkie story, one of these might do?

Ed: Or the traditional ballad, The Great Silkie of Sule Skerry?

I'd never heard that ballad before and I'm in love. Thank you!

I've only seen this fairy tale (Contest of the Fairies) on the internet and never had any source beyond that it's French, so hopefully this link will suffice for anyone who's interested.

Interesting - I've seen that before collected as Rosanella (original author Anne Claude de Caylus), in Andrew Lang's Green Fairy Book. Would that version also be acceptable?

(The canon is already wrangled on AO3 with that title)

Oh, wow! Since it's already wrangled that way, it should be fine (and selfishly I like the untranslated versions of the fairies' names much better). My nomination for the title I'm familiar with has already been approved. Should I renominate?

No, you don't need to - since I'm helping Rosencrantz mod, I can edit the tag in the tag set. Just wanted your permission first. (I like Surcantine and Paridamie better too.)

Hiya! I would like to nominate the legend of the Hurlers, a stone circle in Cornwall. There are brief accounts of the story in several places on the internet, e.g. here, here and in this book, and there's a (modern) song about them, but I can't find a definitive 'full' retelling anywhere. What would be the best way to nominate this?
