NOMINATIONS! ARE! OPEN!

Tagset is HERE!

Your nominations create the set of stories that can be offered and requested when signing up. The tagset is user-chosen and changes from year to year. You don't need to nominate to sign up, but you do need to nominate to ensure that what you want is in the tag set.

You can nominate up to 4 fandoms and up to 4 characters each.

Guidelines can be found here in the FAQ, resources can be found here, and of course feel free to ask the mods anything at: onceupon@fandom.exchange

Please be specific when nominating - narrow your tale down by author or origin. Many fairytales have multiple versions and we only allow specific versions so everyone is working from the same variation.

Good: Beauty and the Beast - Joseph Jacobs
Bad: Beauty and the Beast (Fairytales)

We welcome comments on this post to clarify which version you mean. Links are great, especially if you think we may have difficulty finding the source.

Nominate! Check back before the end of nominations (Jan 30th) to see if we have questions for you! And then, Feb 6th, SIGN-UPS!

Important Dates, all times in CST/CDT:

Nomination Period: January 16th, Sunday to January 30th, 11:59 PM Sunday
Sign Ups: February 6th, Sunday to February 16th, 11:59 PM Wednesday
Assignments out: February 18th, Friday
No-Fault Deadline: April 17th, 11:59 PM Sunday
Deadline: May 8th, 11:59 PM Sunday
Archive Goes Live: May 13th, 4:59 PM Friday
Anon Period Ends: May 20th, 4:59 PM Friday

Hello! I think my nominations are mostly single-source (or at least a very specific iteration of a tale type), apart from the one we discussed previously. However, I’ve collected links, for the convenience of the mods! Thank you for running this exchange. <3)

The Snow Queen
Belle-Belle, or the Fortunate Knight
The Velvet Ribbon (Version 2)
Fitcher’s Bird

This year I'm nominating Sheath and Knife because I'm living dangerously.

This is the source page on it:

https://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/eng/child/ch016.htm

It includes variations. Right now as I write this I'm very tired and have no preference on the specific version used (i.e. 16A or 16B etc.) Basically I just assume this means this is child ballad 16.

I did a bit of an approximation in terms of characters--I looked at the archive and found 2 fics for this, one of which used OMC/OFC format and one listed no characters. Apologies if this leads to any confusion, I just went with brother, sister, father. I am happy to change it. It seems it hasn't been nominated in a previous year.

I want to nominate a few stories, including The Sealkskin, an Icelandic Folktale that can be found here. It doesn't have official ao3 tags whatsoever (for characters either), so let me know if there are any issues or if I should change something (or if there are similar options with tagsets available).

I've also tried to nominate Madame de Villeneuve's version of Beauty and the Beast, but it gives me an error message (that, weirdly, tells me another user has nominated "BATB (Fairy Tale)" so I should be more specific and say "La Belle et la Bête | Beauty and the Beast (Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve)"... which I'm already doing lol).

The thing is that it keeps giving me this error message:

error message that tells me another user has nominated BATB Fairy Tale so I should be more specific and say La Belle et la Bête Beauty and the Beast Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve

Even when this is what I'm tagging it as:

proof I'd already written La Belle et la Bête Beauty and the Beast Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve

That's good to hear ^^

I have space for another fandom then. Would Euripides' Medea be eligible, for example?

That's happening because every nominated tag needs to be unique. So your characters will go through fine if they're nominated as things like

Beauty (Villeneuve)
Beast (Villeneuve)

rather than choosing what comes up in the auto-complete.

Hi, I'm [personal profile] peristeronic on AO3 and I nominated Matty Groves and Geordie.

Matty Groves: http://www.contemplator.com/child/mattie.html
Geordie: https://genius.com/Anais-mitchell-geordie-child-209-lyrics

Sorry, now that I'm looking back on it, should I have specified that I really want the Anaïs Mitchell version in parentheses, like "Geordie (Mitchell & Jefferson)"? Or is that not how this works?

Thank you so much! I thought I did nominate it, and it was approved. I went and added it to my nomination again with the singers' names.

Hello! If I want to nominate a source in French, do I need to translate it, or would a detailed summary be enough?

Are you guys up to checking the tag set?

Cupid and Psyche (Metamorphoses - Apuleius) - should be (The Golden Ass - Apuleius)
The Dog Bride (Indain Folk Tale) - I think this should be (Indian Folk Tale)

Thank you wonderful mods for all your hard work making this run!

My bad :-) I'd assumed it had been mixed with Ovid's Metamorphoses.

Story Nomination

Hello!
I nominated two characters from Arthurian legend, specifically, Lancelot and Galehaut. Text from which I nominated them-Lancelot-Grail- has two names, that one, which I used, but also is called often Vulgate Cycle. Is it okay to nominate it like that, or should I change it to Vulgate, or maybe La Morte'd Arthur ( as itereation of characters appears there too)?
Thanks a lot!

I have scanlated English translation of Vulgate here, but I am absolutely ready to change it to Morte. Would probably be easier on tags too. Will do so now, thanks a lot!

I've only just realized that one of my nominations for "Belle-Belle, ou Le Chevalier Fortuné" is misspelled. "Florida" should be "Floride." I think autocorrect got one past me there; apologies!
